By sharing real life networking scenarios and tips, she hoped to reach a new audience of entrepreneurs needing her help. I’m intrigued by a person’s story; how they got where they are today. I often ask others when I first meet them, “What’s your story?” Because of that, I thought I would tell you my story so you can get to know a little about me and how I got where I am today in my business.
For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a teacher. When I was young, I used to play pretend school and my barbie dolls were my students. When it was time to go to college, there was a surplus of teachers and I was advised by my high school guidance counselor to pick another vocation. I was always intrigued by foreign languages and since I already speak two other languages (English is my third language), I set out to study to be an interpreter for the United Nations.
Because life hands you twists and turns, that path was soon cut short and I switched my major to accounting (I loved math) and graduated college with an accounting degree. Fast forward past the almost 10 years in corporate America and then the 25 years where I owned a successful home-based accounting business and now I am back to my passion of teaching. It has come full circle. The cool thing is….every step leading up to this point in time had a purpose. The corporate years taught me structure and systems. The entrepreneur years of owning my own accounting business taught me how to network, what to say and what not to say, to capture a prospect’s attention. I learned back then that when networking, just showing up is not enough.
Six years ago, I decided to follow my passion of training and teach entrepreneurs how to get started in a business, focusing on networking, sales and organizing their financial papers. I never realized the strong need for an Entrepreneurship 101 course: the basics of owning your own business. I took it for granted that because I had an accounting background, I knew what I needed to do. But, I realized that unless this was your expertise, it’s not intuitive; there are a lot of forms and procedures that need to be adhered to in owning your business. Whether it’s a brick and mortar business or a network marketing business, you need to treat it like a business and set it up correctly and pay your taxes.
Through all this, I finally figured out what I’m meant to do…..it’s helping people launch a business and grow it by learning the basics of networking and increasing their sales! As more and more people were asking me for my networking secrets (I was asked often “How do you make it look so easy?”), I put together a system called Networking Done Right to give entrepreneurs something to follow and implement in their business. This proved to be wildly successful; I never realized how many entrepreneurs needed the basic training of networking. No one teaches you the basic, but important steps, when you’re launching your business….but I will. I’ll teach you what you need to know to master the art of communication and close more sales. I’ve combined these 2 powerful skills and have put together an easy to follow system for the beginner and advanced business owner. As far as the accounting setup part of a business, I’ve learned that most people don’t have the desire to learn how to set it up and maintain it so they hire an accountant. For that reason, I no longer include that in my training. But for those of you who are interested, I created a system to track your expenses called The ORDER Advantage System (see Products tab).
I realized that the key to building a successful business is to be passionate about your purpose in life and why you are doing what you’re doing. Whether it’s helping others with their bottom line, connecting them with someone in my circle of influence or encouraging them to take a leap of faith, I’m passionate about helping others succeed. By sharing my knowledge, I’m confident that I will make a difference in your life and your business.
